Acehnese people won’t be feel too long in grief on post-earthquake and tsunami disaster which hit Bumi Serambi Mekkah or Aceh on 26th December 2004. So did the Dekranasda in bringing out Batik Aceh.
After the tsunami, Dekranasda immediately moved to revive Batik industry in Aceh which had suspended in 90th era. Deputy Secretary of Dekranasda Aceh, Elita said, her side started to recruit around 30 peoples from different region.
“They were trained and supervised in Dekranasda for three days to get the expertise in making batik. While the experts who taught them came from Java Island,” he said to Media Industri in a Great Batik Hall, Banda Aceh.
There are hundreds type of motif developed in Aceh. In only one county/city, Elita said, can appear around 20 types of batik with motif of Aceh. Meanwhile, the Aceh Province alone has 23 cities.
According to her, the motif in batik which has the most interest is rencong, pintu Aceh, and gayo. “These batiks’ motifs in Aceh always grow and not have standards like Javanese motifs. There is a batik product which motifs are the combination of motifs from Aceh’s weaves,” she explained.
There is also the price for batik with Aceh’s motif, Elita said again, in between 150000 Rupiah and 1 million, depending on the type of fabric used. The types of fabric are katon morry, doby, piscos, super-silk, timbul-silk, ATM-silk, and ATBM- silk. “Because it is produced with hands, therefore Aceh’s batik is relatively expensive,” she stated.
Several challenges faced on the effort of developing this cultural heritage of Tanah Rencong. One of them, Head Deputy of Business Development in Dekranasda Aceh Nur Asma said, the character and culture of people in Aceh are not painstaking, while in producing batik, we need a really high accuracy.
“Producing batik needs patience and accuracy. While people in Aceh prefer to market ready-to-sell objects,” Nur said.
Despite of this, Nur doesn’t easily give up. Socialization is still on progress so that the society wants to develop and is interested in using their province’s creation so that the motifs can be widely known nationally and internationally.
She thought, Batik Aceh started to become worldwide since the arrival of foreign non- governmental organizations which gave helps to Aceh after the earthquake and tsunami. However, the existence of these organizations (NGO) didn’t give any impact to the number of orders of batik to outside of the country.
To push the popularity of batik, she continued, the government has ordered additional compulsory uniforms to civil servants in this area. Private parties such as banks are also pushed to wear batik uniforms from Aceh.
“The official’s partners in Aceh are also promoting batik Aceh in routine to conserve our cultural heritage,” she said. Source : kina edisi khusus
